Gastric Banding (Lap Band) in Mexico
Gastric Banding, also known as Lap Band Surgery in Mexico, is another leading form of weight loss surgery. The Lap Band procedure is a restrictive procedure in which an adjustable silicone band is placed around the upper part of the stomach. This creates a smaller stomach pouch, which restricts the amount of food that can be consumed at one time and increases the time it takes for the stomach to empty. As a result, patients achieve sustained weight-loss by limiting food intake, reducing appetite, and slowing digestion. The band is connected to a small port that is placed in the abdominal wall, and can be adjusted by injecting saline through this port. This is called a fill. Adjustments or fills can be made based on your weight loss, food cravings and other physical reactions to the surgery. This procedure is minimally invasive and reversible. Gastric banding surgery in Mexico takes about one to one and a half hours and can usually be performed on an outpatient basis or may require a one-day hospital stay. Many people are back to work on Monday after a weekend of rest after surgery. Gastric banding in Mexico may be a better option for people in which gastric bypass surgery is deemed too risky due to underlying health complications. The requirements for gastric banding are the same as for other weight loss surgeries, which is a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40. This is equivalent to being about 100 pounds overweight for men and 80 pounds overweight for women.
